Punjab: bomb in a house converted into a Koran school for children

Nine dead and 50 wounded in a village close to Mian Channu, an agricultural town in the district of Khanewal. The explosion was heard more than 9 kilometers away. Some twenty houses also collapsed in the explosion. Local sources say that mainly women and children are under the debris.

Lahore (AsiaNews / Agencies) - Nine people were killed and 50 wounded in the explosion of a bomb in a house used as a Koranic school for children. It happened in a village close to Mian Channu, an agricultural town of Khanewal district in the south of the province of Punjab.  

The bomb explosion occurred at 9.45 am local time. "The explosion was so loud that they heard it more than 9 kilometers away," said a resident of Mian Channu, and half the village is destroyed. “Most houses are made of mud and brick. "  

The local police said that blast was caused by explosives placed in a home used as a Koranic school for children. The explosion generated a knock-on effect that collapsed adjacent buildings. The authorities are unable to determine how many people are still trapped under the rubble. According to residents of the village beneath the debris are mainly women and children.
