Pope getting better: breathing improves and he's taking food

Vatican City (AsiaNews) -- The Pope's third day in hospital is going well.  Hopes are that, given his steady improvement, he will be able to publicly recite the Angelus from his room on Sunday at Rome's Gemelli Hospital.   The head of the Holy See Press Office, Dr Joaquín Navarro-Valls, released the following statement today (AsiaNews translation):   "The Holy Father's condition has improved.  John Paul II is eating normally.  Medical tests confirm that his general condition has stabilized.  Given his improvement in respiratory functions, a new statement will be released on Monday, February 7 at 12 a.m."   The Vatican spokesman also specified the following: "From his hospital room tomorrow afternoon, the Pope will watch, via television, the ceremony for the Feast of Our Lady of Trust, Patron of Rome's Major Seminary, which will take place in the Paul VI Auditorium in the Vatican.  The Pope's speech will be read by the Sostituto of the Secretariat of State, Archbishop Leonardo Sandri."   Concerning the Angelus Prayer of Sunday, February 6, this is a weekly appointment that the Pope would not like to miss: his fondness for it is well known.  I shall be able to give further details tomorrow on the recitation of this Marian prayer.
