Kurdish prisoner sentenced to death to continue hunger strike in Iran
A native of the Kurdish city of Sanandaj, Golparipour was convicted on 12 May by a revolutionary court in Mahabad and sentenced to death in accordance with articles 186 and 190 of the Islamic penal Code.
As a protest against the sentence and the conditions of his detention, he went on a hunger strike.
As far as it is known, the prisoner is currently in critical physical conditions. His lawyer, Ehsan Mojtavi, launched an appeal against the sentence but he has not received a response yet.
In the meantime, during a recent meeting, the judge threatened Golparipour, telling him that his death sentence would be carried out if he did not end his hunger strike.
In response to the judge’s threats, the Kurdish activist said, “I know that I will be executed soon; therefore, I will end my life myself in order to shame you, even after my death.”
