AsiaNews reports in a Rosary for the worlds persecuted Christians
Cattolica (AsiaNews) – Reports by AsiaNews within a Rosary “for peace and for the world’s persecuted Christians”. It takes place each month in Cattolica, near Rimini, North west Italy, within the chapel of “La quiete” home for the elderly, run by the Sisters of Maestre pie (teachers of piety).
It also took place yesterday: at the beginning of each of the (sorrowful) Mysteries a situation of persecution or of difficulty for a Christian community was evoked, by reading the PIME agencies news reports. Yesterday the prayer recalled the situations of the following communities; the Christians in Bangladesh, innocent victims of a moralizing campaign which saw the destruction of houses built for the poor; in Indonesia, the attack against a Church in Bandung, West Java, which brought to 30 the number of Churches forced to close since 2004; in Pakistan where a Christian has been condemned to death without any proof, accused of having offended Muhammad and the Koran during an argument with a group of Muslims, a charge which brings with it a sentence of life imprisonment or death by hanging.
Prayers were also offered up for Malaysia, where the Christian community is seriously concerned by the spreading of Sharia law and its prevalence over the country’s Constitution. So it seems following the Federal courts decision to deny a Christian convert, Lina Joy, the right to cancel the word “Muslim” for her identity card and documents, which would free her to marry, as is her desire, a Christian.
A final meditation was also dedicated to Iraq’s Christians, following the murder in Mosul of Fr. Ragheed Ganni and his three sub-deacons, Basman Yousef Daud, Wahid Hanna Isho, Gassan Isam Bidawed.
