A world day of prayer for Lebanon
The Christians of "Jesus King of Peace Church" propose February 5th.
Beirut (AsiaNews) A world day of prayer for Lebanon, to be celebrated on February 5th. It's an initiative launched by the "Jesus King of Peace Church", a protestant Lebanese church to distance the country from the shadow of renewed civil war. Their written appeal to churches, prayer groups and individuals states "It is said that every twenty years there is war in Lebanon, but this time it is different. Now there is a church in Lebanon that wants to oppose any further conflict and that is asking the world to unite in prayer for peace in Lebanon".
The "Jesus King of Peace Church" document continues, Lebanon is the only middle eastern country whose constitution provides for a Christiana s president of the republic, the only nation that has "freedom of culture, of evangelization, to build churches, to teach and inform the faithful. This is why we believe that Lebanon has a strategic role in the Middle East and why we believe our spiritual enemies are forceful in their opposition.".
For this reason, the appeal is also an invitation to prayer to all Lebanese political leaders, that they may form a "strong government", which alone will have the authority " to enforce respect for the law and defend the country", a government which "protects social well being "and allows the Lebanese people to lead "a quiet and serene life", and that moreover "Lebanon may have a peaceful future life, lead in fear of God and with serious commitment". "Never again bombs and assassins".
