A group of 80 students meet in Dhaka for seminar on morality and personality

Students come to study in the capital from various dioceses around the country. In 2008, the seminar attracted 60 participants. Now the goal is to extend it to the whole capital.
Dhaka (AsiaNews) – Some 80 Christians from around Bangladesh met in Dhaka last Saturday for a “Seminar on morality and personality development” organised by a local Catholic school. In his address, Holy Spirit Major Seminary Deputy Rector Fr Shorot Francis summed up the gathering’s objective, as “having the right personality is fundamental to connect with God and hear His call.” For Fr Stanley Costa, rector of the St. John Vianney Intermediate Seminary, “young people need to find the right goal in life, which is in God.”

The students involved in the seminar came to Dhaka from various dioceses to get a higher education. Compared to 2008, when the first seminar was held, participation rose this year by 20 people.

“Nine such seminars are scheduled per year for young Christians coming to the capital from various dioceses in order to a higher education,” Fr Franco Cagnasso, from PIME, told AsiaNews.

The seminars’ organising committee includes four men religious—two PIME members, Fr Franco Ballan and Fr Fabrizio Calegari, as well as Fr Stanley Costa and Fr Shorot Francis Gomes—and four nuns.

One of the nuns, Sister Tripti Gomes, said she was enthusiastic about the seminar’s success. For her the goal is now to extend to the whole of the capital what is now happening in just one area.

Sukhen Tigga, 21, from the Diocese of Dinajpur, said he wanted “to become like Fr Shorot Francis Gomes, and like him, work for youth.”

From a very poor family, Sukhen Tigga was able to study with the help and support of Fr Fabrizio Calegari, from PIME.

In his address, Fr Stanley Costa stressed the importance of understanding “what God asks to do in life” and that it was not necessary “for everyone to become a priest or a nun”.

At the end of the seminar, students took part in the Mass held in Mary Queen of Apostles Church.
