“Burn a Koran” campaign suspended but not called off. Fear for the Christians of Pakistan
Islamabad (AsiaNews) – Only a few days from September 11, Pastor Terry Jones has made a u-turn and yesterday declared that the “burn the Koran campaign” is only suspended and not called off.
At first the religious leader seemed to have changed his mind and given up the demonstrative gesture in exchange for an agreement to stop the project of the mosque near Ground Zero (New York), confirmed by the Islamic authorities in Florida. But the negative statements of Feisal Abdul Rauf, head of the future Islamic Cultural Center of New York, has brought the matter back to the beginning. Meanwhile, Islamic extremists in Pakistan have announced they will retaliate against the Christian community, if the Koran is desecrated, threatening attacks against places of worship in major cities. According to local sources, yesterday in the city of Narowal (Punjab) extremists attacked three churches.
