Vietnamese bishops preparing the Festival of God’s People
Ho Chi Minh City (AsiaNews) – The Festival of God’s People, the end of the Jubilee Year of the Vietnamese Church and the appointment of the 16 heads of the Episcopal committees were the main issues bishops discussed at the Viet Nam Bishops’ Council meeting currently underway in Ho Chi Minh City’s pastoral centre between 4 and 8 October.
The bishops are preparing the Festival of God’s People, scheduled in the city from 22 to 25 November, and have to approve the planned activities.
Mgr Etienne Nguyên Nhu Thê, bishop of Hue, is also set to illustrate the celebrations that will bring to a close on 6 January the Jubilee Year at the National Marian Centre in La Vang.
The bishops that chair the Council’s 16 Episcopal committees will report on the pastoral and other activities conducted over the past year in their respective domain. The Council will also pick their successors.
Speaking about the meeting, many Vietnamese Catholics told AsiaNews that they “hope that the Viet Nam Bishops’ Council will have good shepherds to serve God’s People and the Church for our new lives.”
