The web, a missionary frontier for young Indonesian Catholics
Jakarta (AsiaNews) - Promoting the work of
evangelization on the Internet, thanks to the voluntary contribution of young
Catholics who share their stories and experiences of faith. The
new challenge of the mission in Indonesia,
the most populous Muslim country in the world, but home at the same time a
living Christian community is on the web, and they are eager to respond to the
task launched by the Church. Mary
Dini is one example of this. The young
woman, who works in the commercial sector recently attended a training course on
writing, a "passion" cultivated since childhood, but in a personal
way on her blog, despite the "big ambition" to "participate in mission of the
Church in spreading the faith. " She
described her "dream come true" when an article - after it had been
edited - was posted on the Catholic portal Sesawi.net and in just one week has
almost reached 6 thousand views.
On
30 September the association Bhumiksara Foundation, an NGO founded by the
Jesuits in Jakarta
in 1987 with the aim of promoting the work of young people, in collaboration
with Sesawi, organized a one day writing course, which was attended by 16 adult workers in the
public and private sectors. It
is the second event promoted by the catholic site, after the meeting in
mid-September in the parish of St. Francis Xavier in Toasebio, West Jakarta. With
the collaboration of a dozen members of the editorial staff of Sesawi, workshop
participants were able to study issues related to writing, with particular
attention to the testimony of God's word through the internet.
The
project of evangelization on the web is strongly supported by the Bishops'
Conference of Indonesia (KWI), who first invited the leaders of Sesawi - first
Indonesian Catholic portal, launched in June 2011 - to talk about their work. The
meeting was attended by least 150 people, including a bishop, dozens of
priests, nuns and lay people from 37 dioceses in the country. People
involved in various ways - many of them volunteers - in the work of
evangelization.
These
meetings have provided positive feedback, because they offer the opportunity to
learn techniques and philosophies of writing, helping bloggers to understand how
to speak of Christianity and their personal testimonies of faith in the digital
world. During
the workshop, participants also prepared a short text in the set time of 45
minutes.
