by Qaiser Felix
The President of Pakistan’s Minorities Alliance has appealed to the Pakistani Supreme Court to intervene against attempts by students and Islamic religious to “talebanize” the country, which risks the destruction of the country’s economy and international image.

Islamabad (AsiaNews) – Attempts to impose Sharia in Pakistan “is of no use to anyone, it risks destroying the economy and Pakistan’s international credibility and what’s more, goes against the philosophy of the nations’ founding father”. All Pakistan Minorities Alliance Chairman Shahbaz Bhatti Strongly condemned the intolerant activities of Jamia Hafsa Students and Lal Masjid clerics to impose “Talibanization in Islamabad”.

Bhatti appealed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take action against the Jamia Hafsa administration for “spreading the religious extremism and anarchy in the country by establishing parallel system with in the state”. Moreover, he demanded “the government to take stern action against those trying to take the law into their hands and terrorizing the citizens of Pakistan”.

Speaking to AsiaNews, Bhatti explains: “the Jamia Hafsa students and their administration burn video cassettes, terrorizing people particularly women and enforce Taliban style Sharia. These activities are not only undemocratic, illegal, unethical, and unconstitutional but also barbaric acts and against the Human rights standards”.  Bhatti said that the move of Jamia Hafsa is against the ideology and thoughts of Qauid-e-Azim, the founding father of Pakistan and attempt to enforce Taliabanization by force is not only a threat to the security of Pakistan but safety of the International community. It will also strengthen the extremists, fanatic elements and vigilante groups, who believe in violence, hate and terrorism even hell bent to capture all institutions for their vested interests”.

This he said “will also bring about the destruction of our already ailing economy and our foreign investment will be adversely effected that will damage the image of country”.  Concluding, Bhatti recalled that “Patriotic citizens of Pakistan will not allow “Talibans” to capture our beloved motherland for their intolerant violent activities. The Constitution of Pakistan is already full of Islamic articles and provisions therefore there is no need to introduce such Sharia and radical philosophy of Islam by force”.
