Mae Che Sansanee Sathirasuta, a Thai Buddhist nun publishes hers and other participants reflections on Assisi 2011 in a national weekly.
Bangkok (AsiaNews)- Mae Che Sansanee Sathirasuta, director of the SathiraDhammasthanCenter, shares her thoughts on how to build a "sustainable" peace after attending the Assisi meeting, presided over by Benedict XVI on October 27 last. The religious quotes excerpts from speeches delivered on that occasion publishing them in the weekly magazine "Udomsarn". The first quote is from Pope Benedict XVI: "The will to freedom was ultimately stronger than the fear of violence, which now lacked any spiritual veneer. For this victory of freedom, which was also, above all, a victory of peace, we give thanks. What is more, this was not merely, nor even primarily, about the freedom to believe, although it did include this. To that extent we may in some way link all this to our prayer for peace”. The God in whom Christians believe – said the religious, citing the words of Benedict XVI – is the Creator and Father of all and from him all people are brothers and sisters and form one single family. For us the Cross of Christ is the sign of the God who put ‘suffering-with’ (compassion) and ‘loving-with’ in place of force. His name if “God of love and peace”.
The Pope added: "I would like to assure you that the Catholic Church will not let up in her fight against violence, in her commitment for peace in the world. We are animated by the common desire to be “pilgrims of truth, pilgrims of peace”. ' Violence never again, war never happen again. . In the name of God, let every religion assist to promote justice, peace, forgiveness, life and love on this world "
The president emeritus of the Association of Ulama (Ulama Nabdlatul, Nu), Kyai Haji Hasyim Muzadi, said: " We should not bring the differences of each religion as the reason of controversy but we should bring the likeness of each religion which also aims at solidarity, justice and uplifting of the spirituality of humanity joined together to bring peace to the world.”
Phraphrommolee, Abbot of the first section of the PitchayatkaramworawiharnTemple who was appointed by Thai Sangha Supreme Council to lead the Buddhists team to attend Dialogue and Prayer for Peace in Assisi committed to listen and to support those who refuse violence and evil. He emphasized that “I wish to do whatever I can so that our brothers and sisters of our time may have hope in justice and peace.”
