The police precinct, under siege for days, is bombed to allow the kidnap of the officers. Dozens questioned in the case of the kidnapped UN official in Balochistan but still no news or leads on who is responsible.

Quetta (AsiaNews/Agencies) – The Taleban have sequestered 30 policemen in Swat Valley North sat Pakistan along the border with Afghanistan.  Yesterday hundreds of militants surrounded the Shamozai police precinct.

Taking advantage of the cover of dark the Taliban’s broke into the station, sequestered the agents within, and blew the building up as they left.  The zone is a principal stronghold for the Islamic militants in their guerrilla war: in the last few weeks they have destroyed dozens of institutes and threatened with death all the young girls who attempted to return to school at the end of the winter break.

The fate of the United Nations diplomat of US origins remains a mystery.  John Solecki, who works for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, was kidnapped February 2nd last as he made his was to work in Balochistan.; during the assault on the vehicle he was travelling in his driver was killed.  Yesterday police held 15 suspects for questioning, without however gaining any leads on who is behind the kidnap nor where the UN official is being held prisoner.
