Riyadh (AsiaNews/Agencies) – A man convicted of drug trafficking was beheaded today in the Saudi kingdom. His is the second execution after the month of Ramadan.

Saif al-Hadissane was convicted of selling large quantities of hashish; his sentence was carried out in the eastern region of Al-Ahsa.

During the holy month, there were no reports of executions. Following the feast of Eid al Fitr, on 17 July, which ended the period of fasting, two executions were carried out, one today and one on 23 July in Qassim.

With these two decapitations, the Saudi kingdom reached 104 executions this year. Last year, it carried out 84.

According to the Interior Ministry, death sentences are a deterrent to crime, although no sociological study can back this claim.
