Pope thanks journalists for their work

Benedict XVI says that "media can respond to God's plan only by keeping in mind the need to respect the human person".

Vatican City (AsiaNews/Agencies) – "Thanks to all of you, for your visit and in particular for the service you have rendered to the Holy See and the Catholic Church," said Pope Benedict XVI as he spoke to journalists who were present today at an audience in the Pope VI Hall in the Vatican.

"It is with pleasure that I meet and cordially greet the world of communication," said the Pontiff.

"You could say that thanks to your work for so many weeks, the attention of the whole world has been fixed on the basilica, on St Peter's Square, and on the Apostolic Palace, inside of which my predecessor, the unforgettable John Paul II, serenely ended his earthly existence, and where, in the Sistine Chapel, I was elected".

The Pontiff said that media communicators must keep in mind the need to respect the human person.

"Only under these conditions," he stressed, "mass media can respond to God's plan."

After the Pater Noster, the Pope blessed those present, then said: "Thank you and good-by".
