Philippines, pro-life page of the Bishop’s Conference website hacked

Hackers blocked the site for hours with an image of a gagged man. The attack comes a few days from the congress organized by pro-life Catholics against the law on birth control. AsiaNews sources point to the political confusion in the country and the declining popularity of President Aquino.
Manila (AsiaNews) - Hackers have attacked the website of the Philippine bishops' conference. It is the third time since November 2010. They targeted the page devoted to the Commission for Health committed to the fight against the controversial law on birth control (Reproductive health bill, RH Bill).

Yesterday, for several hours the page depicted a gagged man (pictured), with under the signature of the hacker (Aseroh) and the words "we will not stop." The reasons for such an act are unknown, but according to AsiaNews sources are connected to the next Congress of pro-life Catholics, to be held in Manila on July 25 a few hours before President Benin Aquino State of the Nation address. The site of the Bishops Conference had already been attacked November 27, 2010 and June 9, again ahead of Catholic demonstrations against the RH bill.

The sources point out the great political turmoil in the Philippines, which has even struck in recent weeks the Catholic Church, the scandal of the cars given away to the bishops during the Arroyo government. The Church has always been very close to the Arroyo government, which for years opposed birth control, despite pressure from the UN.

"Aquino - explains the sources - has done little in this first year of government and has lost much popularity, betraying the expectations of many voters." For sources, the president does not have the ingredients for a positive assessment of the situation in the country. The trial against Arroyo for corruption and electoral fraud, and approval of the RH Bill were Aquinas’ key campaign promises, but to date there are no concrete signs of change. (Sc)
