Muslim leaders: "Blessed by oil, let's unite against western aggression
During a roundtable discussion in Lahore, leaders of the largest Muslim organizations in southern Asia pushed for concrete unity among followers of Muhammad, "blessed" by possession of the world's largest energy resources.
Lahore (AsiaNews) The Islamic world "should be united among its clerics", who should "implement a true democratic system to counter challenges of the new American world order, and European countries' negative propaganda". This was the outcome of a roundtable press conference held yesterday, 21 May, in Lahore.
Participating in the roundtable and subscribing to the appeal were many high-ranking leaders of the Asian Muslim world, including: the Federal Religious Affairs Minister of Pakistan, Ejazul Haq, Pakistan Muslim League Vice President Begum Tehmina Daultana, Hamas leader Dr Khalid Mehmood, Punjab Special Education Minister Qudsia Lodhi, and the Pakistan People's Party leader Qayyum Nizami.
Participants emphasized "the absolute necessity of reinforcing the Organization of Islamic Conferences (OIC) to develop a mechanism for exchanging technology in science and education." They added: "This is what European countries are doing, strengthening their economies and introducing laws that change the lives of their citizens."
Imran Khan, head of the Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), an Indian Muslim movement, said: "The Pakistani government policies with regard to the United States are mistaken and do not protect the nation. Muslim countries' leaders should realise their importance because they are blessed with rich oil and gas reserves." He added: "The progress of all nations depends on these factors. Muslims should unite and respond to American aggression with these weapons."
