Kabul, the presidential election results postponed again

The vote was held on 28 September. After a first postponement until October 19th, the results had to be published today. Meanwhile, in the country ravaged by 18 years of civil war, people continue to die. Yesterday, 12 people were killed in an attack in Kabul, including a child who was going to school.

Kabul (AsiaNews / Agencies) - The publication of the results of the presidential elections in Afghanistan has been postponed again, for the second time. The delay was announced yesterday by Abdul Aziz Ibrahimi, spokesman for the independent commission for the elections.

Initially scheduled for October 19, the results were postponed to date. The official will not be disclosed, "due to technical problems and other issues".

The country has been waiting for two months to find out who will govern it. The delay only increases the political uncertainty and the suspicion of electoral fraud, with some who want to "adjust" the result. Meanwhile, violence continues in a territory ravaged by 18 years of civil war and inconsistent peace talks between the United States, the Kabul government and the Taliban, after the historic July agreement for a "road map for peace".

The vote for the choice of the new head of state took place on September 28th, in a climate marked by attacks and instability. Two main candidates challenging each other: outgoing President Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic. Once polls closed, both had claimed victory.

Yesterday, a few hours before the announcement of yet another postponement, more deaths have been added to the list of thousands of victims in this country. A car bomb exploded in Kabul, in the Qasaba area, during rush hour. The goal was a convoy of a private security company. 12 people were killed in the attack and 20 others were injured. Interior Minister Massoud Andarabi reports that among the victims there is also a 13-year-old boy who was going to school.
