Internet is a tool for evangelisation, says Tokyo bishop
Tokyo (AsiaNews) – Internet “must be considered as a great tool of evangelisation” because it can “bring to one and all the Gospel’s message.” Hence the “Church must know how to use it,” this according to the conclusions reached by the Catholic Media Council's seventh seminar that was recently held in Tokyo.
Mgr Kazuo Koda, auxiliary Bishop of Tokyo, who led the meeting, told the 60 or so participants—members of the local Church and managers of Church websites—that the Net can bring Christ’s message to those who, for whatever reason, cannot go to church or whose parish church has no priest.
“The age of the Internet could be compared with the changes brought by the Guttenberg age. It is an opportunity for the Church, and should be thought of as a mission for us,” said Council vice president Fr Masahide Haresaku.
Picking up on that, the bishop noted that the archdiocese of the Japanese capital “offers online excerpts taken from the Scriptures with commentaries provided by priests. It is one way to give everyone a chance to hear and reflect upon the word of the Lord.”
