Inter-religious peace theme of Mothers' Festival
Manila (AsiaNews) The third annual Mothers' Festival, "Mothers for Peace, Solidarity and Nation Building", will be held Sunday May 30, sponsored by the Archdiocese of Manila, together with the Silsilah Inter-Faith Dialogue Movement and the Catholic group, Couples for Christ at the Philippine International Convention Center.
The festival will focus on the Christian and Muslim family, and aims to highlight the need for unity among people of different faiths in bringing peace to every home. The role of mothers in contributing to the peace process in Mindanao, southern Philippines will also be explored.The program opens with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, presided by Bishop Socrates Villegas, Bishop-elect of the Diocese of Balanga, Bataan. Sessions on Mary, the Model of women and Mothers as Peacemakers will follow. A portion of the program will focus on men and the youth.The day-long celebration will culminate with the multi-awarded 2001-film "Bagong Buwan" (New Moon), which shows the plight of a civilian Muslim family in Mindanao during the 2000 war of the government against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. "Through this film we hope to awaken among the viewers the need to understand the situation of our brother and sister Muslims, in order to bring peace in our country," film director and media consultant of the Silsilah Inter-Faith Movement, Marilou Diaz-Abaya said.
The first Mother's Festival was held in 2002, in preparation for the Fourth World Meeting of Families in 2003. (S.E.)
