Tokyo (AsiaNews / Agencies) - Sony Corporation admitted yesterday that hackers may have taken away some personal information about bank accounts of more than 25 million users. The PlayStation Network has discovered, after an investigation, a "breach" in the latest Play Station system, which allowed hackers to enter its entertainment online system.

This revelation comes only a few days after reports confirmed by Sony of an intrusion by hackers into data belonging to 77 million PlayStation users. The breach occurred on 16 and 17 April. The hackers may have stolen the input data directly from the banks of 10,700 people in Austria, Germany, Holland and Spain.

According to Sony the hackers may have stolen data from 12,700 other credit cards. A company spokesman, Taina Rodriguez, said that so far, there have been no reports of theft. But the company decided yesterday to suspend the online service of Sony Online Entertainment (SOE). "We were forced to temporarily shut down the online entertainment service," Sony admitted.
