Guangdong, more social protests against the requisition of land
Thousands of people took to the streets in Lufeng to protest against the theft of land. Having raided the headquarters of the Party and the station police, they stayed on the streets resisting police charges.
Beijing (AsiaNews / Agencies) - Several thousand people are on their third day of protest against the communist government of Lufeng, in the southern province of Guangdong, which anted to forcibly expropriate the land of citizens. The inhabitants of the village of Wukan stormed the headquarters of the Communist Party and the local police station. According to some sources, the protests, launched on September 19 last, are still in progress. Each year in China there are more than 90 thousand social protests against corrupt leaders and forced requisitions.
According to the government of Lufeng, the protesters were in their "hundreds", with several injured and many arrested, and even about 12 police officers were involved. An official statement said that "six public security cars were overturned" but does not explain what sparked the violence. No trace of a dispute over land. At the centre of the storm is the Country Garden company, who with the complicity of local officials have illegally acquired several acres of land belonging to the community.
