From the social doctrine of the Church, direction and lines of action to face Asia’s new challenge
Vatican City (AsiaNews) – The challenges that the peoples of Asia face today, challenges like the new poverty and terrorist violence, the search for success at all cost and the effects of an accelerating but imbalanced economic growth, as seen through the social doctrine of the Church are at the heart of an Asia-wide conference that will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from January 25 to the 27.
The meeting, which is promoted by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences and the Bishops’ Conference of Thailand, will present the Social Doctrine of the Church as a tool that offers direction and lines of action to face the new challenges in the search of a balance that would ensure the continent justice and peace.

Speakers will address ecclesial, socio-economic, socio-political, family-related and international issues. They include Prof Felix Wilfred, head of Christian Studies at the University of Madras in India; Lina Chan, Secretary General of Hong Kong’s Commission Justice and Peace; Indian mass media expert Allwyn Fernandes; Wendy Louis, Director of the Pastoral Institute of Singapore and at least 16 presidents of Asian bishops’ conferences from Bangladesh, Hong Kong and Indonesia to Korea, Japan, India, Mongolia, Pakistan, Vietnam, Philippines.
