NLD sources emphasize that the Election Commission has censured a passage from the speech, presented in advance to be "screened" by the censors.

The Nobel Laureate also recalled the civil war which, since achieving independence in the late '40s, has devastated Myanmar for decades. To overcome conflict and division, Aung San Suu Kyi proposes three different steps: the first, is a national ceasefire, to allow the beginning of serious political and inclusive dialogue to define problems and identify solutions, and finally, the pursuit of a "common goal", which is the birth of a "true Union [Myanmar] based on equality, autonomy at a regional level and the right to decide independently, in accordance with the Constitution."

Finally, the opposition leader calls for "amendments" to the Constitution in some key sections that do not fully respect democratic principles and allow the military control the country. Among these, 25% of the seats in Parliament reserved for the army and the minimum of 75% to approve changes to the charter.
