E-Bible, electronic Bible, created in Philippines
The initiative was taken by the Philippine Bible Society, a non-profit and inter-confessional organization. The bible text is available in the eight most spoken dialects in the country.
Manila (AsiaNews/CBCP) The Philippine Bible Society has created and launched an E-Bible, an electronic version of the bible in eight major Philippine dialects that indicates readings for the day and includes a mini-dictionary and a pad for typing notes while reading.
The Society a non-profit and inter-confessional organization said the idea was born following "concerns that the Scriptures will be left behind in a world that is moving so rapidly". The organisation is led by Bishop Efraim Tendero of the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches and its vice-chairman is Bishop Arturo Bastes of the Catholic Commission on Biblical Apostolate.
The Bible text is available in Tagalog, Cebuano, Bicol, Pangasinan, Pampango, Samarenyo and Hiligaynon the eight most spoken dialects in the country and it also includes versions in English.
The initiative "seeks to make God's Word more accessible". "The world is becoming smaller and smaller," said a statement announcing the launch of the new Bible. "We are running fast towards a complete multimedia transformation and we cannot allow the Holy Word to be left behind in these modern times."
