DVD to spread the Christian message among young Tamils and Sinhalese
Colombo (AsiaNews) – The Jesuit Fathers at the Lanka Centre for Social Concern (LCSC) have produced an educational DVD on the Catholic religion with companion booklet for use by students in secondary school in view of obtaining their General Certificate of Education-Ordinary Level. Pradeepa Augasta, a teacher and a former journalist at Radio Veritas Asia, made the DVD.
The product includes four subsections dealing with “Creation”, the “Sacraments”, the “Ten Commandments” and “Prayers in Christian life”. Its purpose is to relay the Christian message to students in schools were Christianity is not taught.
LCSC Director Fr Gebrial Alfred Sj, said, “We did not use professional actors in the video; we chose instead youngsters”.
For Fr Lasantha De Abrew, who presents the various lessons in the video, “The DVD is not only educational, but it is meant to teach society how the Christian faith transforms our way of life. It is a tool to invite all Christians to live according to the teachings of Jesus.”
Now the Jesuit Fathers hope to have the DVD translated into Tamil.
In rural schools where there are no Catholic teachers and children study Buddhism and other religions, the DVD will be handed out free of charge.
