Cross arrives, invitation to youth to change
Manila (AsiaNews) – The World Youth Day Cross arrived in the Philippines where it will visit different archdioceses and parishes to inspire people to change their unchristian ways
The late Pope John Paul II donated the Cross to the youth of the of young people and has made a long, uninterrupted pilgrimage across continents to demonstrate that the Cross walks with young people, and young people walk with the Cross.
After travelling to the demilitarised zone separating the two Koreas, the Cross has now arrived in the Philippines.
Sadly, the Cross won’t be able to visit all of the country’s dioceses and parishes due to time constraint. Its movement will be limited to the archdioceses of Cebu, Jaro in Iloilo, and Cagayan de Oro and Lingayen-Dagupan in Pangasinan.
Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz said he is hoping that the visit of the Cross “will inspire the people to change their unchristian ways.”
The Cross first arrived in Manila in January, 1995, for the 10th World Youth Day celebrations. Almost five million gathered in Manila’s Rizal Park for the occasion.
