Church: a day of fasting and prayer for peace
Yangon (AsiaNews) – The Church in Burma has announced a day of fasting and prayer for tomorrow, “so that peace may come and suffering cease” in Myanmar. Moreover, local bishops have written to the military junta to stop the violence which is wracking the country. A local source has confirmed the move AsiaNews remaining anonymous for security reasons.
Despite this, continues the source, the military has imposed people to take part in a meeting, which will be held tomorrow across the country, “in support of the junta”. Those who fail to participate will be condemned to six months in jail.
Meanwhile the military’s violent continues: according to diplomatic sources, at least 6 thousand people are detained, most of them Buddhist months, who are being held in inhuman conditions in Burmese jails.
