Church wants greater laity involvement in evangelisation
Seoul (AsiaNews) – The Committee for the Lay Apostolate of Korea (CLAK) announced at its standing committee meeting last August 31 to September 1 in Jaecheon its decision to take positive steps in raising awareness about the value of life and in promoting evangelisation.
Over 80 CLAK national representatives also decided to form a special committee to promote the beatification and canonisation of 124 Korean martyrs. They also called on the country’s Bishops’ Conference to pray for the cause.
In his key note address CLAK Chairman Bishop Andrew Yeom Su-jeong said that the evangelisation of the world is a key role that lay people can play, stressing the necessity for them to educate the faithful about leading a truly Christian life.
For Prof Lee Yun-sik from Seoul National University the importance of educating the laity in a Christian sense lies in the fact that whilst media like internet can satisfy modern man’s intellectual needs, his spiritual and emotional needs go unfulfilled.
Other speakers listed the obstacles on the path of educating the laity like the lack of a systematic education, training facilities and the rigidity and uniformity of training programmes.
Participants also agreed to launch in earnest the "Special Committee to Love Life", established in 2006 under CLAK’s umbrella.
