Chinese firm denies US allegations it is assisting Iran in its missile programmes
Beijing (AsiaNews/Agencies) China's top satellite launcher has angrily denied US accusations that it was assisting Iran's missile programmes and demanded that its assets in the United States be freed up, Xinhua news agency reported.
The China Great Wall Industry Corp demanded the United States remove it from a list of companies whose assets in the US have been blocked.
In a statement the company has said that it "has never rendered assistance to any country for any weapon of mass destruction program" and has demanded compensation for all losses incurred.
The US Treasury Department last week accused four Chinese firms and one US company of supplying Iran with missile-related components and called for a freeze of any assets the companies may have under US jurisdiction.
According to a US Treasury statement, the "Chinese firms have provided, or attempted to provide, financial, material, technological or other support for, or goods or services in support of" Iranian missile programmes that are capable of delivering weapons of mass destruction.
Among the weapons produced in the programme are the Fateh-110 missile, with a range of 200 kilometres (120 miles), and Fajr rocket systems, a series of North Korean-designed rockets with ranges of between 40 and 100 kilometres, the statement said.
The Chinese government on Thursday rejected the US charges and reiterated its opposition to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
