Another Russian citizen dead in Orissa: the third in 15 days
The body of Milyakov Sergey, chief naval engineer, was found yesterday in his cockpit. In late December, two oligarchs had died under suspicious circumstances in a hotel in Rayagada. The Indian police say they have found no evidence of a 'criminal act', but the investigation continues.
Bhubaneswar (AsiaNews) - Another Russian citizen was found dead yesterday in the eastern state of Orissa. It is the third in the last two weeks, after the bodies of two Russian oligarchs were found in late December in a hotel in the city of Rayagada.
The last victim's name was Milyakov Sergey: his body was found yesterday in the cockpit of the ship MB Aldnah, anchored in the port of Paradip, in the district of Jagatsinghpur. The man, 51, was the chief engineer of the vessel, which was headed to Mumbai from the port of Chittagong, Bangladesh.
The Paradip port authorities have started investigations, while officers from the Crime Investigation Department (Cid) and the Criminal Branch (Cb) are still investigating the deaths of the other two Russians. Orissa Director-General of Police S. K. Bansal said the investigation was being conducted with an 'open mind' and that so far 'no evidence of any criminal act' had been found.
The two oligarchs were in the Indian state for tourism together with other men, also Russian citizens. Pavel Antov, 65, whose body was found on 24 December, had allegedly fallen from the third floor of the hotel where he was staying - the autopsy report indicates death from internal injuries, according to the police - while Vladimir Bidenov, 61, had suffered a heart attack two days earlier. The body was found in his room at the Sai International hotel surrounded by wine bottles.
Antov was a Russian MP and owner of a sausage company. His death comes after the publication in recent months of a Whatsapp status deemed critical of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Several high-profile Russian citizens died under suspicious circumstances during 2022, including Ravil Maganov, president of Lukoil, the second largest national oil company, who had called for an end to the war.
The two bodies were not sent back to Russia for burial, but were cremated in India, near Rayagada, with the consent of family members and the Russian Embassy, and some remains will be used for forensic examination.
