Ten years on, cardinal Rosales urges Filipinos to support programme for poor
Manila (AsiaNews) - The founder of Pondo ng Pinoy or PnP (funds of Filipinos), a charity programme created by former Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales, has urged Catholics in the country to "continue to support for the sake of the poor and needy". In a message, sent for the charity's anniversary, Card. Rosales said PnP "is not about me. It is about helping the poor".
"Just because I am already retired, it does not mean that people should stop helping. We should always help our neighbor those who are in need. God just used me an instrument for this", he said.
PnP marked it 10th anniversary on June 12. Started by Cardinal Rosales in 2004, PnP aims to encourage every person, "no matter how poor, no matter how humble, the freedom to give, to help and live fully."
To date, PnP has supported more than 300 projects on health, livelihood and development, alternative learning, housing, and Hapag-Asa or (subsidy) feeding programme, amounting to more than Pesos 200 million. (SC)
