Story of a North Korean refugee opens Busan Film Festival

Chosen because it is the story of a family destroyed and then rebuilt. Director: we have taken into account the relevance of the topic. For the 23rd edition of the Festival, 323 films from 79 countries will be screened.

Busan (AsiaNews / Agencies) - The pain of a young woman, a family destroyed and rebuilt: This is the theme of "Beautiful Days", the film that tells the story of a young North Korean refugee and that next month will open the Busan International Film Festival.

The film, directed by Yun Jero, starring Lee Na-young (see photo), follows the steps of a woman who flees from North Korea to the South through China, leaving behind her husband and son. 16 years pass, and the woman meets the now grown up child, who nourishes a strong resentment towards her. "We have paid attention to four things, in terms of the advancement of the film's history - explains Jeon Yang-jun, executive director of the festival – although it talks about the disintegration of a family, in the end it tells a story of family reunification. We have taken into account the relevance of the topic ".

The 23rd edition of the Festival will be held between October 4-13 in five country cinemas, including the Busan Cinema Center, in Busan (325 km southeast of Seoul). 323 films from 79 countries will be screened, including the first of 115 productions, including 30 short films. The last work of the Hong Kong director Yuen Woo-Ping, "Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy", will close the festival.
