Seoul, Protestants look to the North and set up cooperation group
The inaugural ceremony was held yesterday in the capital of the South. The Protestant Churches of the Korean peninsula must work together to "spread and witness to Christianity" and to promote peace in Korea and in the world.
Seoul (AsiaNews / Agencies) - A window for cross-border exchanges and cooperation between the Protestant Churches of the two Koreas: this is the mission of the new "Interkorean Exchange Group of the Churches of South Korea", announced by the National Council of Churches in Korea (Ncck), during a ceremony held yesterday in Seoul.
"So far," an Ncck official said, "inter-Korean ecclesiastical exchanges have been carried out through various channels. The new cooperation group will now deal exclusively with the exchanges between the Protestant Churches of the two Koreas ".
The organizations involved include the Presbyterian Church in Korea, the Methodist Korean Church, the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea, the Korean Salvation Army, the Anglican Church of Korea and the Korean Orthodox Church.
"The South Korean Churches - announces the group in its inaugural message - together with the Korean Christian Federation of North Korea, will work for the dissemination and witness of Christianity through exchanges, cooperation, sharing and service".
The initiative aims to "participate actively in the peace movement, in accordance with the principles of justice, peace and life. We will pray and be devoted to reconciliation, mutual prosperity and permanent peace on the Korean peninsula, as well as in Northeast Asia and the whole world ".
