Pope: Protect creation "like a mother or sister", with responsibility, tenderness and peace
Receiving a group of representatives from the London Institute of Jainology Francis speaks of "safeguarding" the Earth, "in the knowledge that caring for, protecting creation, the Earth, means caring for and protecting all of humanity".
Vatican City (AsiaNews) - Creation is "the mirror of God" and our task is to care of it "as we would a mother or a sister, that is, with responsibility, with tenderness and peace”, was Pope Francis’ reflection to a group of representatives of the London Institute of Jainology, received before the general audience.
To the representatives of the ancient Jain community, founded in India in the sixth century BC and centered on the philosophy of nonviolence toward all living beings, Francis spoke of man's responsibility for creation, "a gift that we all have received so that we safeguard it. Creation is the mirror of God, it is the mirror of the Creator, it is the mirror of nature, of all nature, it is the life of nature and even our mirror".
"We all like Mother Earth - he continued - because she is the one who gave us life and protects us; I would also say sister Earth, who accompanies us on our journey through life. But it is our task to care for her like we would a mother or a sister, that is, with responsibility, with tenderness and peace”.
"Thank you - he concluded - for all that you do in this task and may we remain united in this ideal, in this task, in this work to make sure that our mother, our sister Earth is safeguarded; in the knowledge that caring for, protecting creation, the Earth, means caring for and safeguarding all humanity".
