Opposition prevails in local elections in Turkey

CHINA – MEXICO
The bodies of four Chinese citizens (seven women and one man) were found on a beach near the city of Playa Vicente, in the Mexican state of Oaxaca, along the route used by migrants to enter the United States. One person survived the shipwreck. Last year, more than 37,000 Chinese citizens were arrested on the border between the United States and Mexico, a figure 50 times higher than the previous year.
ASIA
According to a report released today by the World Bank, all developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region, excluding China, will grow by 4.6% in 2024, up slightly from the 4.4% recorded in 2023. The countries considered developing on the Asian continent are China, Mongolia, East Timor and the 10 members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean). Private investment and earnings from the tourism sector remain lower than pre-pandemic levels, and there may be imbalances due to an oversupply of consumer goods from China.
TURKEY
Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) led by Ekrem Imamoglu has won local elections in the main cities of Istanbul and Ankara, inflicting a defeat on President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's party for the first time in several years. In total, the CHP prevailed in 36 of Turkey's 81 provinces, state Anadolu Agency reported. According to analysts, this "surprising result" is also a consequence of the disastrous state of the Turkish economy.
SOUTH KOREA
Hidden cameras were found in around 40 rooms which will be transformed into polling stations and places for counting votes in the general elections on 10 April. In recent days, police arrested a suspect identified as a far-right YouTuber who has often raised doubts about the election results.
INDIA
The chief minister of New Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, among the key opposition leaders, will remain in judicial custody until April 15. According to lawyers from the national anti-corruption agency responsible for the arrest, Kejriwal was "uncooperative" and gave "evasive answers" regarding the alcohol policies he had implemented in the capital and for which he is accused of corruption .

The last president of Artsakh, Samvel Šakhramanyan, appealed to France in an interview with Le Figaro to "put pressure on Azerbaijan to release political prisoners", as several political leaders and soldiers from the region conquered in September 2023, including ex-president Araik Arutjunyan and some ministers.
