New round of trade negotiations on Monday in Beijing
Washington wants to discuss the long-standing question of Beijing’s treatment of intellectual property of US companies, forced to share information.
Washington (AsiaNews/Agencies) – A new round of trade negotiations between the United States and China is set to begin on Monday in Beijing, after the last round of negotiations ended in Washington last week without an agreement and with the chief US negotiator stating that a lot of work still needs to be done.
The United States remains set on putting pressure China on the long-standing issue of intellectual property demanding that it change the way it treats US companies, forced to share information. The goal is to strike a trade agreement and prevent the increase in tariffs on Chinese imports.
The White House announced that lower-level officials will start Monday's meetings, led on the US side by Deputy US Trade Representative Jeffrey Gerrish.
Higher level talks will take place Thursday and Friday with US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
