Nepal's first time at ICC World T20
Kathmandu (AsiaNews) - For the first time in its history, Nepal has qualified for the ICC World Twenty20 cricket cup. The Himalayan nation beat Hong Kong by 5 wickets, qualifying for next year's tournament in Bangladesh, where they will have a chance to vie for the top title.
Success, for some fans, was also due to prayers by the team's multi-faith supporters. Kishor Shreshta, a young Christian man, said he held tight to a Bible and a rosary throughout the match. "God blessed our country," he added. "His plan was to qualify the team."
Followers of other religions are equally enthusiastic. Many Hindus brought offerings to their temples. Yakir Hussein, a Muslim supporter, said he watched game along with others. "We went to the mosque, knelt and prayed with the Qur'an," he explained. "I believe Allah will bless us with more victories."
