Missionaries of the Immaculate from India to Brazil, courageous examples of a life dedicated to the Gospel
Vijayawada
( AsiaNews) - The world today needs the example of courageous people who
dedicate their lives "entirely in the Gospel" and the missionary task
entrusted to every Christian. This was stated by Msgr. Govindu Joji , apostolic
administrator of Vijayawada , in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh ,
addressing two sisters of the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the
Immaculate (PIME ), who on January 4 were
mandated on mission to Latin America , a continent of origin of Pope Francis,
and more specifically the south of Brazil. The ceremony was held at the
Cathedral of St. Paul, in Vijayawada , and it was an opportunity for the
profession of perpetual vows for five other sisters , who want to devote their
lives to Christ and to work for the evangelization of the nations , according
to the charism proposed by the congregation to which they belong .
The two religious set to leave for South America are Sr. Shiji Joseph,
originally from Kerala with theological studies in Rome , and Sr. Sunitha
Pamula , a native of Vijayawada , with a background in theology, studied in
Bangalore. Both received the crucifix , the symbol of their promise to testify
to the Word in the context of their mission.
During the Mass , the bishop invited the religious to ignite the flame ( of
faith ) in the world , and prepare for their missionary journey. During his
homily , Msgr. Govindu Joji also asked parents to pray for their children so
that they can "feel the support of God" in their work . "If the
flame of grace does not burn - explained the bishop - it will be difficult to
survive in the religious family ."
The women religious therefore signed a document agreeing to follow Christ,
which they later showed to hundreds of people, including relatives and
faithful, who attended the mass . The church was decorated with phrases of the
Gospel , decorations and signs of celebration, while the parish choir sang
hymns and songs in praise of God. Finally, the sisters received the ring a
symbol of loyalty and commitment to the Lord, and to the proclamation of the
Gospel.
Sister Marina , provincial superior of the Missionaries of the Immaculate
Conception, received the promise on behalf of the Superior General in Rome. The
nun welcomed the "courageous" decision , embracing her sisters in a
" warm hug " . Afterwards , family and acquaintances shared the
moment of celebration through a convivial lunch at Nirmala High School,
followed by a final exchange of greetings and congratulations.
