Lahore (AsiaNews /
Agencies) - The U.S. State Department
has ordered the "non-essential"
diplomatic staff of its consulate in
Lahore Pakistan to
leave the city. Issued today, the provision also imposes travel restrictions on U.S. citizens to
Pakistan. Some officials speak of "credible threats" to U.S.
citizens in the country.
The order issued by the Department
of State speaks of "the presence of several native and foreign terrorist groups."
The withdrawal of the diplomatic staff,
explain some U.S. officials, is a precautionary measure that is not linked
to the recent
closure of many consulates and embassies in Islamic countries.
