Knife attack leaves one Israeli dead two wounded: 'Hamas revenge'

A 17-year-old Palestinian boy attacks three civilians armed with a knife, killing one, wounding two, one seriously. The Israeli army says it shot the assailant. Hamas had asked to avenge the killing of three Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Jerusalem (AsiaNews / Agencies) - A 31-year-old Israeli civilian was stabbed to death last night in a settlement in Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank. Two others were wounded. One is hospitalized in serious condition, the other has suffered minor injuries. The attacker infiltrated the Adam colony between Jerusalem and the West Bank and struck alone, armed with a knife.

Security forces report that the 17-year-old attacker was killed. Israeli troops are now in the village of Kubar where the boy lived.

On Thursday, the armed wing of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas said it would avenge the death of three of its members. The Palestinians were killed on July 25 in a retaliatory incursion by the Israeli army after some missiles from the Gaza Strip wounded a soldier.

About 153 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip by the March 30 demonstrations. "The enemy will pay a high price for the crime he commits every day against the rights of our people and our fighters," say the Ezzedine al-Qassam brigades of Hamas.
