Jubilee of the papal nuncios begins today in the Vatican
For three days, 106 papal representatives will take part in seminars and moments of spirituality. Francis will receive them on Saturday, but the diplomats will have more opportunities to meet with him. A Jubilee day will be held on 18 November for the nunciature employees.
Vatican City (AsiaNews) – Papal diplomats from around the world met this morning in the Vatican for the Jubilee of Mercy as requested by Pope Francis. Next Saturday, the last day of the meeting, the nuncios will pass under the Holy Door at St Peter's Basilica.
Except for two out of 108, all papal representatives were present in today’s meeting, which began with a morning Mass in the Chapel of the Choir of the Vatican Basilica, led by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin.
Two seminars were set for today in the Synod Hall inside the Paul VI Auditorium Hall. The first of these centred on the ‘Pope, the Church and the world today’, chaired by Professor Piero Coda, president of the Sofia University Institute. The second session focused on ‘Genesis and the case of gender culture’, led by Rev Robert Ghal from the Pontifical Holy Cross University in Rome. Tonight, a dinner is scheduled, which Pope Francis will attend, at the Casina Pio IV in the Vatican gardens.
Tomorrow morning (16 September), participants will hold a working session with officials from the Secretariat of State. In the afternoon, they will attend a follow-up conference presented by Card Jean-Louis Tauran, president of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, on ‘Interfaith dialogue, relations with Islam’. In the evening, they will attend a reception at the Pinacoteca Vaticana with the heads of curial offices and the ambassadors accredited to the Holy See
On Saturday (17 September), activities will have a distinctly spiritual character with 40 invited retired apostolic nuncios. At 7:30 am, the pontifical representatives will join Pope Francis in the chapel of the Domus Sanctae Marthae to concelebrate Mass. This will be followed by a reflection from Mgr Pierangelo Sequeri of the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family Life.
At 10 am, the pontifical diplomats will pass under the Holy Door at St Peter's Basilica before they meet the pontiff at 11:15. This meeting will end at 1 pm with a lunch with the pope at Domus Sanctae Marthae.
As part of the celebrations of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, the Holy Father invited all 163 nunciature employees – councillors, secretaries and employees – to the Vatican on 18 November, to celebrate a jubilee day.
