Jakarta: Catholic weekly launches digital edition, E-Hidup
The new project of Majalah Hidup, the Indonesian Churches' magazine published since 1946, is launched. Card. Suharyo: "We expect it to respond to the expectations of the younger generation, touching them spiritually and motivating them to spread the Gospel".
Jakarta (AsiaNews) - With a celebration presided over by the Archbishop of Jakarta, Card. Ignatius Suharyo, the Indonesian Catholic weekly Majalah Hidup launched its new digital edition. E-Hidup is the name of the platform, which brings the tradition of the newspaper active in Indonesia since 1946 into a new dimension.
Already in 2014, a first digital platform was created, later joined by Hidup TV, which also offers live streaming of the most important events in the life of the Catholic community; since the 24 September edition, it is now also possible to consult the entire weekly magazine online.
For the occasion, Card. Suharyo, presided over a special Mass in Jakarta Cathedral, in the presence of the publication's editor-in-chief, Fr Harry Sulistyo, members of the editorial staff and all those who follow the life of the Catholic media in Indonesia with affection.
"Faced with the serious setback suffered by the print media in the last decade due to the massive spread of digital devices,' Fr Sulistyo told AsiaNews, 'we have chosen this path. And so we hope to be able to reach more and more readers thanks to this mode accessible at any time and in any part of the country'.
"We expect that E-Hidup can meet the expectations of the younger generation," Card. Suharyo - who want easily accessible information and news. And through this tool we hope they will be spiritually touched and motivated to spread the Good News".
The weekly magazine Majalah Hidup was first published in Dutch in 1946 under the original name Het Katholieke Leven ('The Life of Catholics'). By 1950, however, articles began to be written more and more in Bahasa, the official language of Indonesia.
