Jakarta (AsiaNews) - He led for, the Commission for Social Communications of the Archdiocese of Semarang, in Central Java, 10 years and now uses the internet and YouTube to spread the Gospel and promote Christian values and lifestyles. Fr. Willem Pau Pr, pastor of St. Joseph Church in Bintaran suburb of Yogyakarta, has always believed in the potential of media to achieve the missionary task and opened a website and a blog.
For Fr Willem the spread of Catholicism in modern society can not ignore the available media, able to reach the faithful and even non-Christians. From 1998 to 2008 he was the head of the Commission for Social Communications of Semarang and promoted new ways to "improve the ability to use any media". Among these, the priest explains to AsiaNews, the Internet is "the most effective tool" to launch new themes every day.
Through the network, Fr. Willem publishes reflections and meditations, along with the Gospel stories on YouTube. "My mission – he highlights - is to help my congregation to be a means of the Church in announcing the Good News”. And once he had finished the experience as head of communications, he intends to "find more effective ways to continue the apostolate, including opening a blog and a website."
Fr. Willem Pau Pr was born in Magelang, 25 km north of Yogyakarta in 1980 and concluded the minor seminary of Saint Peter Canisius, Mertoyudan in his hometown. He is also a popular musician; he plays the violin and composes short pieces. Between 1999 and 2008 he also participated in several television and radio programs. The priest recalls the past in the field of communication, which led him to "continue the same type of mission among my parishioners and the surrounding area." Fr. Willem has created a website called www.klikkatolik.com, which he updates daily. This way people who are familiar with new technologies, especially young people, have the opportunity to follow Christian spiritual formation.
