Historical agreement will favour transports between the two countries

Seoul (AsiaNews/Agencies) – Since the end of the war (1950-53), North and South Korea have always had an unfriendly relationship. A new project meant to develop both transports and communications between the two countries will contribute to make the relations more serene.   

Representatives of the two countries have met for the 9th time in order to discuss economical issues. The meeting took place in Pyongyang from the 2nd to the 5th of June. The two countries have signed an agreement which establishes new sea trade routes that will connect several cities. The new routes should be inaugurated in August. Two new roads will be built before the end of October, one on the West coast and the other on the East coast. The authorities are also considering to inaugurate two railroads that should run along the new roads. The projects also entails the institution of a Joint Agency before the end of June. The agency will oversee the works in an industrial area in Kaesong (N.K.) which is financed by South Korea. The two countries also decided to adopt a telephone direct line, radio frequencies and a signalling system that can be used to prevent warfare activities in the Yellow Sea. In order to celebrate the 4th anniversary of the historical meeting between the North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il and the South Korean President Kim Dae-Jung, the two governments have decided to cease propaganda activities against each other. According to Yonhap (South Korean agency) this agreement will improve trade activities between the two countries granting also political stability.
