Fourth Philippine Apostolic Congress on Mercy to focus on youth
The event opens tomorrow until Saturday. The three days in Manila are part of the celebrations for the Year of Youth organised by the Bishops’ Conference. Archbishop Gabriele Caccia, apostolic nuncio, will preside over the opening mass.
Manila (AsiaNews) – Young people will be the focus of the Fourth Philippine Apostolic Congress on Mercy (PACOM 4).
Centred on the theme of The Divine Mercy in Communion with the Young, PACOM 4 will open tomorrow in Manila and end on Saturday. It aims to promote and propagate the devotion of the Divine Mercy among young Filipinos.
The three-day event is in line with the celebration of the Year of the Youth as part of the preparation for the 500 years of Christianity in the Philippines in 2021.
The Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, Archbishop Gabriele Caccia, will preside over the solemn opening Mass together with Mgr Ruperto Cruz Santos, bishop of Balanga and episcopal coordinator for Asia of the World Apostolic Congress on Mercy (WACOM).
The Apostolic Nuncio will also give the first talk on “Divine Mercy for You(th)” that aims to deepen the youth’s devotion to the Divine Mercy.
Kalookan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, Vice President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), will give the second talk in the afternoon on the topic “IMG (I Am God) Selfie Syndrome and the Image of the Divine Mercy.”
The talk seeks to explain the ill effects of this trend and to teach young people how to make Christ the centre of their lives.
On Friday, Fr Michael La Guardia, SDB will deliver the third talk in the morning entitled "N-Chances from No to Nfinity – healing from a broken relationship through the Divine Mercy”.
Fr Joel Jason of the Archdiocesan Commission on Family and Life will give the fourth talk on “Love Despite Regret (LDR)”. The talk aims to provide participants with an understanding of the Divine Mercy's love and what it entails.
The last talk will be about “Immortal Combat – Divine Mercy and the battle for souls” to be given Fr Jose Francisco Syquia, Chief Exorcist Priest, Archdiocese of Manila. He will enlighten the participants of the Divine Mercy's power to strengthen souls, giving a whole new meaning to "Immortal Combat."
Antipolo Bishop Francisco De Leon will preside the closing Mass on the last day of PACOM 4 on Saturday.
