Fire tamed at Dubai skyscraper dubbed 'The Torch'
The skyscraper, 337 meters high, was hit by flames in 2015, but without casualties. Several fires have taken place in the emirates. The use of flammable material is suspected in building cladding.
Dubai (AsiaNews / Agencies) - A fire that broke out in the early hours of this morning in one of Dubai's tallest skyscrapers, has been tamed and there are no casualties. Residents of the building were evacuated safely, though in a state of panic.
The authorities say that the flames started on the 63rd floor of the tower, then spread to the lower and upper levels. There are still small outbreaks on the lower levels, but in the central and upper area the fire has been put out.
The 337-meter high tower was the scene of another inferno in 2015, causing huge damages to luxury apartments.
The authorities still do not know what caused the flames. Last January, Dubai announced massive measures to reduce the risk of fire, mainly due to the use of flammable material in building cladding.
In November 2015, fire enveloped three residential towers in the city center, for which the metro service had to be stopped. But no one was hurt.
On 31 December of the same year a fire broke out in a luxury hotel, injuring 16 people.
