Fifteen Indonesians travel 20,000 km and 30 hours to see the Pope at the WYD
Led by Fr Stefanus Haryanto, young men and women came from different dioceses of the archipelago. With their dreams and spirit of change, they have the Church in their hands.
Panama (AsiaNews) – Fifteen young Indonesian Catholics travelled nearly 20,000 kilometres to reach Panama for the 34th World Youth Day (WYD) to "listen to the message of Pope Francis".
The young men and women came from different dioceses of the Indonesian archipelago, led by the head of their delegation, Fr Stefanus Haryanto.
"The first joy we experienced,” said the clergyman, “was when we arrived in Panama City, after the 30 hours of a journey that saw us pass through Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and Amsterdam (Netherlands). The second one was participating, together with thousands of others, in the inauguration liturgy of the WYD, presided three days ago by Mgr José Domingo Ulloa Mendieta."
"During the homily, the archbishop of Panama City invited young people to dream. This is the first step to change the world for the better. Mgr Mendieta stressed the important role young people are called to play within the Church. Dreams and spirit of change are now in their strong hands."
