Explosions in Taiyuan, outside the Communist Party headquarters. One dead and eight injured
Beijing ( AsiaNews) - A series of explosions outside the headquarters of the Chinese Communist Party headquarters in Taiyuan (Shanxi ) killed one person and injured eight others . Police found metal balls, wires and small battery circuits and thinks that the bombs - at least 7 according to witnesses - were handmade and placed in the flower beds in front of the headquarters of the party. At least 20 cars up to 100 meters away, were damaged in the explosion. The police are investigating and making no assumptions for now.
The attack takes place about a
week after another attack in Tiananmen Square in Beijing which the government has
attributed to a group "terrorist" of Uyghur Muslims. Further
fuelling tension is the approaching Third Plenum of the Communist Party,
November 9 to 12 , where the leadership is expected to launch several economic
reforms that could damage the monopolies of SOEs .
In
the past there have been attacks perpetrated by individuals against buildings
of power to criticize injustices.
Some
suggest the attack could have be a settling of accounts within the Communist
Party of Shanxi itself: last week Party members arrived in Taiyuan to open an
investigation into possible corruption in the finances of Shanxi Province. There
are so many allegations of corruption that the Party's Central Inspection Commission
for Discipline has asked people not to block the work of the inspectors with
their petitions.
