Dhaka: a Christian counselling centre helping couples in crisis
Dhaka (AsiaNews) - The Missionaries of the Immaculate Conception, a female congregation associated with the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME), opened the Christian Family Counselling Centre in Dhaka to provide support and advice to young people and couples in crisis, helping them understand the gift of being a family and overcome difficulties. Now the Archdiocese of Dhaka runs the centre, which has 21 counsellors, priests and nuns members of Worldwide Marriage Encounter (WME).
Rojoni Gomes (not her real name) is a Catholic woman. She is one of the people who benefitted from the services the centre provides. "I did not know what to do to cope with my family's crisis," she told AsiaNews.
"Someone advised me to apply with the Christian Family Counselling Centre. I went with my husband for several days. Today I can say with great joy that we have solved our problems. Had I known about these consultants before, we would done it sooner. "
Shymal Rozario, a young Catholic, also sought help at the centre. "The consultants helped me get back to a peaceful life. I learnt that family life means sharing and caring for one another as husband and wife."
"Our goal is to provide advice to couples who are not happy in their married life," centre secretary Sister Josephine Rozario told AsiaNews.
"As a result of globalisation and modernisation, many families are breaking apart, even after 15 or 18 years of marriage. We tell them how they can rebuild their relationship and how to get back to being happy. "
Unfortunately, "we do not succeed in 100 per cent of the cases," she noted, "but many return home with peace in their heart."
Lately, "many young people also come to us for advice on mixed marriages."
