Card. Yeom: Lent, a time of new hope for humanity
Seoul ( AsiaNews) - Lent "is not a time of trouble and sorrow, but a time of new hope and courage. We humbly reflect on our sins and prepare for a new beginning. In other words, we must repent: The basic repentance for us, however, means to find the path toward our Lord. Therefore, the most important thing to do is to restore our relationship with Him": writes the Archbishop of Seoul , Card. Andrew Yeom Soo- jung , in his Message for Lent on the theme "Put on the new self, created to be like God" (Eph. 4:22-24 ).
In the text, the Cardinal writes: "The Lord has created the Earth and the human beings with love. This beautiful world, however, is now filled with materialism and the contempt for human life due to our sins and pride. It is because in our hearts, there is no place for God or for love. If we repent and change our way of life, we can solve any problem. We have to put off our old selves, which are being corrupted by their deceitful desires, to be made new in the attitude of our minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness".
With the beginning of Lent , the cardinal concludes, "let us put charity and sacrifice into practice so that we can take an active part in the sufferings of Christ. Let us express love and consideration to our families and those around us, starting from the smallest good deeds. Let us begin our journey of Lent through earnest prayers, repentance, and the love for those in need".
